We thought his obsession for diamonds was satisfied after he bought himself that OVO owl necklace made of one kilogram of gold and more than one hundred carats of diamonds, but we’ve never been more wrong.
Drake Can Never Have Enough
Garrison Bespoke knows that the Canadian rapper can never have enough diamonds, so the clothing store, along with the Raptors, consequently decided to do something that would put a big smile on Drake’s face.
The Toronto clothing store paid homage to one of its country’s finest superstars by gifting him a very special handmade jacket studded with 235 diamonds.
The sports jacket is without a doubt one of a kind and is worth over half a million dollars. Imagine walking around in a $550,000 jacket! It would feel surreal, no doubt, but this clothing article is nothing in front of Drake’s routine extravagant purchases.
What makes it so ridiculously expensive, you ask? Well, of course, the diamonds, but there’s more to this jacket than what meets the eye. The material used for this item of clothing is almost a century old and came from the textile company Dormeuil.
Being part of the French company’s private collection, it must be worth quite a huge sum of money. This type of cloth was incidentally what they used to make jerseys back in the day in the early 1900s.
The diamonds on Drake’s jacket were crafted by Diamond Foundry, and they take the shape of a basketball and the Raptors’ owl logo. The basketball lines the jacket’s left hand, while the OVO owl is on the right, both on the exterior and the interior.
Lining the jacket’s exterior at its back is the OVO Raptors black and gold jersey the artist himself helped design, and he couldn’t be more pleased with the result.
The Drake Curse
You’ve heard of the Drake Curse, right? Apparently, if Drake takes a photo with any member of a sports team, they end up losing their next game.
It also works with the rapper wearing a team’s jersey, and it worked against the 76ers. In their playoff semifinal game against the Raptors, Drake wore a pair of the Sixers shorts, and the Raptors won by two points. No wonder the team approached Garrison Bespoke to offer Drake this gift!
Via Twitter, the Toronto Raptors shared images of Drake receiving his gift, and the rapper was visibly pleased about the whole affair.
For their involvement, Garrison Bespoke’s owner Michael Nguyen released a statement saying that it was indeed a privilege to present Drake with the gift after a hugely successful year of the rapper’s partnership with the Raptors as their Global Ambassador.
As he put it, the jacket is a unique blend of historic craft and modern innovation, and that Drake totally deserves it.
Garrison Bespoke has made it a tradition to honor the Raptors’ Ambassador each year with a custom-made piece, and gifting Drake with this jacket is the fifth time they have been at it. They sure do know Drake’s style as the jacket goes well with his OVO owl necklace and his iPhone case.
